I am mostly recovered from the trip to Edinburgh (v. 2.0). The interview was stressful and involved many, many tests and also the hardest sell known to mankind. The Potential Employers (TM) turned out to be rather nice people, as I chatted with the Potential Boss, who was sweet and funny. And also young. In fact, not a single person I saw was over forty. This was somewhat disconcerting, as I wouldn't have thought that Potential Employers are a young and hip firm. After all, it's accountancy... isn't it?
Well, no. It's public sector consulting, or something similar. The assessment exercise they had me do involved preparing a brief for a client on why they really should comply with environmental regulations, why polluting is Bad, and why Corporate Social Responsibility is Good. And also profitable.
I'm not altogether sure if I'm comfortable with the profitable part, but the economist in me is squeeing, I'm sure of it. Also, businesses tend to care about profit, and![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
athena25 has been reading books that say this is a good thing.
The feminist economist in me is beating her head against a brick wall.
However, Potential Employers appear to have no intention to keep me locked to a for-profit desk. Apparently, they train you and then, much like mummy birds, they set you free. This is because you will probably end up in the public sector - yay - and therefore a potential client. They like this thought. I'm not terribly averse to it myself.
So, I'll know in a few days. But can I just say that I wouldn't hate it there? Or at least I don't think I will, providing that everyday work involves the stuff I did at the interview.
Having said that, I'm sure that I've just jinxed myself and they hated me, etc etc. *headdesk*
Moving swiftly on, I have purchased B5 Season 5. This makes me happy, yea verily. I am filled with the urge to write Lochley fic. And Lennier/Vir slash, which will be filled with unbelievable cuteness. And a Londo/G'kar fic involving (accidental) public sex. With voyeurs. And tassles.
Look at my new icon. Isn't it pretty? It has nothing to do with B5. Must. Shut. Computer. Off.
