Ah Avon has brown hair though and hardly "gaunt" at the end.

At the end of his life, yes. At the end of his time as a stuffed puppet, no. Having seen some stuffed individuals, even if they were round and rosy in life, they are most definitely not in death.

My bad on the brown vs black, but it looked funny on the page when I wrote it, so I changed it. *shrug*

An effect of the taxidermy/ embalming process? the hair as well as the gaunt features. :¬)
