multiverse5000, this was ridiculously hard to write, and is possibly version 8 or 9 of attempt 6 to write this story. Many thanks to
queenspanky and
mizzykitty for their invaluable assistance; if it makes any sense, it is entirely up to their efforts.

Date: 2009-06-24 11:59 pm (UTC)I love the intersection of Federation and Federation. I love Jim's role in the fall of Kodos, that Kodos falls because he listened to Blake - and how this is the turning point, when the rule of law becomes law by those who rule, and an Empire claws its way to life.
Wonderfully wicked!

Date: 2009-06-27 10:13 pm (UTC)I would watch them faster but for instance tonight we have to watch MI III because hubby wants to. *exasperated sigh* It's JJ Abrams though, so it's not too bad. But I would have preferred to be watching ST. heh.

Date: 2009-06-27 11:20 pm (UTC)Quick backstory (which is all in The Way Back, the pilot, so not much in the way of spoilers): Blake was a major resistance leader in the totalitarian Federation until he is captured. Instead of killing him, they reprogram him to be the model citizen, and ship his siblings to another planet. They're executed, and he's regularly sent faked vids to make him think they're safe and happy. Eventually he's approached by the Resistance again, and he hooks up with a bunch of them just in time to have them massacred. He's captured again. This time, they decide on a different approach. Instead of reprogramming Blake, they take a group of children and reprogram them to think that he's molested them. In this way they discredit him, and any evidence he can present about the massacre. It's pretty horrifying stuff - and this is just the first half hour! The rest of the episode (and the series) just gets worse...
