Pure genius

Ladies and gents, have a wander over to the Yuletide Archive. I have the bestest present ever!!!!

My Holiday Musical is absolute genius. It's a Scrubs fic that's completely in character, it references some of my fave fandoms, and it is just - well, my words can't do it justice. Go, read, leave fabulous feedback. Secret Santa - I salute you. You rock!!

Half past Christmas...

It's officially Boxing Day, although I'm not counting it as such until some actual sleep takes place.

home-related things - health, family, etc. )

Anyway. Much turkey was eaten. Many chocolates were consumed. I've been occasionally dipping into Yuletide when my brother lets me borrow his laptop. Otherwise, I've read a book and slept.

The book was actually rather nice.

Title: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Author: Lisa See

Overall, I found Snow Flower an enjoyable read - one that I will be keeping for a re-reading - and it had a great many interesting research points that I am keen to follow up on. Recommended to anyone interested in women's histories.

Yuletide recs

As well as my amazing Sekkrit Santa present (the Scrubs fic to end all Scrubs fics! Santa, you rock my socks off!) here are some other fics I've enjoyed thus far> Given that there are over 1,000 stories in the archive for this year, you'll understand that it's taking some time to go through them...

- Addams Family Therapy
This fic is pure genius. I maintain that The Addams Family is a very difficult fandom to write for, as it relies so heavily on visual humour, but this author manages it masterfully. Joel is in therapy, and talking about his one-year anniversary with Wednesday. This is witty, funny, and so completely in the spirit of the movie it makes me giddy. Go. Read. Now.

- The Bridal Path
Another Addams Family fic, and it is sharp and clever and wonderful. The summary is also spot-on: She warned him.

- Number These Excess Days
A Carnivale fic, set during S2. My knowledge of S2 is hazy, but I loved Sofie in this, and the last line just killed me.

- Apples & Oranges
Oh. Oh, man this is heartbreaking. Good Will Hunting, and just - so rich, and so vibrant, it'll just eat you alive.

- 5 firsts
A Knight's Tale, Kate/Christiana. Kate is such a wonderful character, so strong anf likeable, and this fic really does her justice.

- Nature Boy
A Knight's Tale, Wat/Chaucer, and it's cute and funny. :)

More to come as reading progresses...

Xmas viewing

I'm going to second [livejournal.com profile] selenak's squee over the Doctor Who Xmas special. What better way to squeal over the holidays than to indulge in the Doctor?

Attack of the killer Santas! )

Casino Royale )

Also, I got many, many presents.

- Cash - always needed.
- The West Wing Season 7
- Elizabeth Arden beauty care lovelies
- Lovely, lovely books, including The Skeptical Environmentalist and The Guide to Elegance, and from [livejournal.com profile] queenspanky, The Art of Teese - mmmmm..... *purrs*
- Electric toothbrush-thingie which shall doubtless take me years to master (electrical appliances and me are unmixy things)
- seamed stockings & various other clothing lovelies

I also discovered various other bits and pieces that I'd thought I'd lost, including a porcelain lacquered jewellery box, inlaid with 24 carat gold and with beautiful gold-upon-copper etchings of a pavilion amidst falling cherry blossoms. The sales also yielded a beautiful Mucha calendar, and 40 degrees below, which is one of Kim Stanley Robinson's environmental books.

I am very pleased indeed. *glows*

Back home tomorrow, for to sleep some more. Yes.
