Post-exam & publication joy (ish)
18 May 2005 03:32 pmA brief update post-exam.
First off, I passed my French exams. I finished the oral presentation yesterday night and handed in my portfolio and it's all fabulous. The teacher said I had a perfect French accent which was somewhat bewildering for her as I don't actually speak in French during class. I explained that it was because I felt stupid having to paus mid-sentence to conjugate verbs in my head. She was very understanding and told a brief tale of how her doctor speaks very loudly to her, like she's 1) stupid and 2) deaf. What is it about people thinking that speaking loudly makes them understood? If I didn't understand the words the first time around, increasing the decibels isn't likely to help.
Anyway, the oral exam itself was fine. I had a brief presentation on the UK general election, I asked the class questions that
athena25 helped with - mucho gracias, doll - and then I had to field questions about UK twentieth-century political history. Now, it's a rather heavy, complicated subject to begin with, let alone in bloody French, so I am pleased as punch that I managed to string more than a couple of sentences together. At any rate, it's all over now and I am definitely getting my French certificate. Woo and yay.
Anyway, the important thing is that I am free to meet
emptyplace at Coffee, Cake & Kink on Friday for some much needed R&R. Exam in about two weeks, bah, humbug.

On a more academic note, I am writing a book review for a feminist journal. How on earth does one write a book review for a journal anyway? Hmmm. It's not due for a while (and I haven't actually read the book yet - a small-type, scary book on aspects of postmodern feminism) so I have some time to stress about it, but, woo, yay, my name in print. Maybe.
