A ha!

Potential Employers (TM) have coughed up for a hotel room, due to my being unable to travel 400miles in three hours. Not. Physically. Possible.

Ergo, I am staying at the Roxburghe Hotel on Charlotte Square, a very nice place by all accounts. I'm actually wuite looking forward to this now. I chatted to erica and we're having dinner the day before my interview, which will be nice. I'm also dragging [livejournal.com profile] athena25's boy along because they haven't met and they live in the same city. Whatever happened to Bedlam!incest, anyway?

In other news, I have printed off a copy of the Jack/Sloane thingie I am working on. It is tentatively titled 'Game Theory'. [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite is making it not suck for me. This will doubtless take some time, as currently it is blowing the entire UEFA Champions League. However, once it is done, I shall be pleased, yes indeed.

In the meantime:

I am occasionally lukewarm towards this pairing, as they have no Unresolved Childhood Traumas standing between them and True Happiness. However, I am mostly heartily sick of UCT and desperately want a couple that actually respect each other. McGonagall has never humiliated Snape, nor has he ever thrown things in her direction. It is incredibly refreshing to read about people that don't: hate each other whilst having sex, break the law in having sex, or are repressing something hideous that will come back to haunt them. It's a relationship that doesn't require Drama! Trauma! or Violence! to produce interesting fic.

But, you know, sometimes you need a little drama:

Bester and Garibaldi should have their own 'non-con mindfuck' symbol. Slash just doesn't cover it. Garibaldi is a recovering – and lapsing – alcoholic; Bester is a very scary man. Their orbits revolve around each other, tighter and tighter, though the closer they get, the more destructive they become. There's fascination and violence between them even before Bester tears Garibaldi's mind open, and even that violation is a mercy: what would have happened to Garibaldi if Bester had not interfered? And though Bester does not shirk from executing normals who have reached the end of their usefulness, he spares Garibaldi. Just because.

OK, you know what? Those were really hard to write as 100-word little statements. Really, really hard to write. I feel the need to write an essay on the Bester/Garibaldi one, but I feel that this would probably lead to badness.

Oh, I need a ficathon. I've promised people fic (namely [livejournal.com profile] selenak and [livejournal.com profile] leyenn), but somehow nothing is coming. Grr. I also really want to continue with the 'American Pie' WIP I have kicking around, but it's looking at me impotently. The fics are mocking me. I must eat an apple turnover.
