no one is ever, ever, ever allowed to use the following sentence ever again:

"when X slid ino Y's body, it was like coming home"

no it wasn't. i don't know what your homecomings have been like, but it doesn't in any way shape or form resemble dinner, parental units, formal(ised) debate over the dinner table and being told to take my feet off the sofa.

plus, it sounds stupid. especially when it's swiftly followed with "X came" or variations thereof.

because the juxtaposition of the two uses of 'coming' inevitably makes me spew orange juice over my monitor.

The three latest fics I've just read in the hp fandom have all used the dreaded 'coming home' sentence. Stop it, or I shall start sporking.

Unless it's the story of the prodigal tampon.

I'm going to defend this sentence in theory because yesterday I did come home (from a convention) and immediately have sex that was exactly like coming home, because it actually was. You're right though, the wording is unimaginative and cliched beyond belief. It should only be used if it can be totally justified by being an actual bout of homecoming sex. ;-)
