Arse bollocks
13 Aug 2005 11:50 amThe
merry_smutmas sign-ups came and went - as I had worried, they came and went without me. *cries a little*
Some days I hate being in a different timezone. :( What's especially frustrating is that I checked just before going to bed last night, and by the time I looked this morning, it had all happened. How?? *sigh*
Many thanks to
cjmarlowe for writing me that note, otherwise i probably wouldn't have even know until much, much later.
*upset face*
Well, it just means that I'm likely not doing anything for HP this year, as I am sorely out of inspiration for anything following the HBP. The up-side is that I get to take part in
yuletide, which I didn't have time for last year, and actually do some other multi-fandom challenges. So, all is not lost.
Last night - oh dear lord. Someone - and I am not pointing any fingers, but I am looking in
athena25's direction - plied me with drink. A small marching band is practising their repertoire in my head this morning. *clutches temples*
On the other hand, we had Ye Olde Bedlam Crowd over for drinks and dinner, and did I mention the dri nks? Yes. Wine, champagne, and some sort of Hungarian sherry thing for which I blame
wingsmith (token Young'Un).
I'm going to drink some water and work on my Multiverse fic some more.
Thought - seeing as I am massively bereft of HP-related funness, anyone want to help me out by reading over / editing my Multiverse submission? It's about 2/3 done, but really needs a good kick up the arse. Fandoms are... well, if you read my lj you'll probably be familiar with them. Any takers? *hopeful*

Date: 2005-08-13 11:18 am (UTC)yes, multiverse is a cross-over challenge aimed specifically at sci fi shows. we're talking star trek, babylon 5, stargate firefly, doctor who etc. If you are comfortable with the characters of all of the above, I would appreciate the help, as I am a little concerned that my characterisation has gone haywire.
at any rate, i am going to spend the weekend rewatching old episodes and scribbling notes on what is and isn't in character.

Date: 2005-08-13 11:21 am (UTC)At any rate, there isn't a great deal I can do about it, other than take it as a sign that I should channel my energies towards
Thank you for the note, though, 'cause it was so far down my flist by the time I looked that I might not have seen it at all... which would in fact have made me feel worse.

Date: 2005-08-13 11:32 am (UTC)Now I have read "if wishes were horses" Do you recommend me some HP fics?
(of your fics, of course ^^)

Date: 2005-08-13 11:37 am (UTC)of fics... hmmm. It depends what you're into, really.
Well, fics I wrote during 2004 can be found here, and they have descriptions by them.
My drabbles are all here, and my slightly longer fics are here. all should have descriptions by them.
The earlier stuff (mostly pre-OotP) is here, again with descriptions.

Date: 2005-08-13 11:45 am (UTC)The process was different both years, just because of the sheer number of participants and fandoms. Last year there was a prelimary process where people listed all the fandoms and characters they might conceivably want to write or request, and from that the organizers formed a list of fandoms they deemed rare (which was just about everything that was requested, because people are sensible. :) the only thing I remember seeing repeatedly last year that didn't make the final list was Lost, which was only rare at the time because it was so new).
The signup itself was a twofold thing -- you listed all -- and I mean *all* -- fandoms that you would honestly be willing to write in, including crossovers, from the extensive list that's provided, and also characters that you would be willing to write. (Not pairings, but characters.)
In the request portion, you would make 3 or 4 requests, each with the fandom, up to 4 (I think?) characters you would like to see, and an option note for a more specific request. Again, you don't ask for pairings, just characters. Though if you ask for just two characters, and make a note requesting a slash plot, it's pretty clear what pairing you want. :)
(As an aside to this, when you look at the unfilled requests on the yuletide site and see an unusual number of threesomes and foursomes? that's because those were just the names of the characters requested, and not the nature of their relationship. *G*)
While writing this, it occurred to me that the instructions were probably written up in the community, but upon checking it seems that the link is down until this year's process starts (in October, from the looks of things). But I was reminded that the actual number of different fandoms requested last year was 1,477. Wow.
