This is a really lovely, well thought-out story. I'm not sure why it was written as an adult fic rather than a gen one, because it doesn't need the sex bits at all. The premise is seemingly simple: Clark is put in a position where he has to use his powers in front of TV cameras, or let Lois die. In reality, this fic doesn't just focus on that one moment, but on constructing the entire world and everything that led up to it. This isn't a twenty-something Lois & Clark - they're in their fifties, and they have grown-up children. They have a life together, that seems an entity all of its own when threatened by the whole Superman myth.
What I especially enjoyed about this fic was the care and attention paid to the supporting characters: Jimmy, Perry, Alice and the kids all seem like real people, different and individual, yet (those that were on the show) are still obviously themselves. The little touches did it for me: Jimmy, still a little dorky and hiding in a coat closet; Lara and Marta being so unable to cook that 'dinner from the girls' is more of a threat than a treat; young Jonathan's focus on saving the whales; Perry's inability to stay away from the newsroom; Alice's careful eyes during the nightmares scenario that reveals Clark to the world. Most of all, though, I loved Clark in this. He was amazing - thoughtful, and brave, and still very human with all his fear at losing himself in favour of Superman.
This is a nice long story, and really something to curl up with. Other than the sex scenes - once again, not needed - it could make for a really nice episode of the series. There's plenty of introspection, but you never get the feeling that the characters are sitting around navel-gazing - they are vibrant and active and full of life. Highly recommended.
