Fic rec:
For the Greater Good by Wendy Richards (at Anne's Place, registration required - adult fic)
This fic is brilliant. Premise: a fragment of an exploded planet is hurtling towards Earth, and only Superman can stop it. The problem? The fragment is from Krypton and is made from pure kryptonite. Even if Superman manages to stop it, it's a suicide mission...
This is a nice long fic, set a few years after Lois & Clark get married and have two small children. It explores both how the world takes Superman for granted after a while - and how his family doesn't. It also has a really fun explanation for the complete lack of death in this story (yeah, okay, maybe I shouldn't have told you that, but this isn't a death!fic and even knowing that didn't diminish from its impact) - actual made-up plasma science, which might be a little bit better than what's used on sci-fi shows...
As I said, this isn't a death!fic - i.e. Clark doesn't die. But that's almost besides the point, in a way, as the fic isn't about whether or not he survives - he always survives - but how he will react when he thinks that he won't. Moreover, how will Lois & Perry & Jimmy react when they think that he won't - especially if there is plenty of time to let it sink in. This isn't a last-minute split-second decision - this is something deliberate and protracted. It's agonising to read, but in a very good way.
I'm also impressed that this fic managed to make the 'adult' bits so completely necessary to the emotional development of the characters. It feels very natural indeed. Wendy Richards has a light touch in those scenes, almost as if the emotional caution of the characters is leaching into the writing of their last night together.
It's - yeah. Just go and read it.

Vid Rec:
La Tortura by Mad Dog Lane (at Anne's Place - no registration needed, general access)
Ah, this vid is very fun. The song is by Shakira, and even though it's not in English it manages to convey a story: Lois & Clark and their push-pull relationship throughout the years. It's sexy and emotional and a lot of fun. Go watch!
