on rewatching "Legacies"
27 Nov 2004 07:57 pmRecently purchased season 1, and so I've got it playing in the background whilst reading about the indequacies of refugee camps in Zaire (my degree, it has to be said, rocks on an epic scale, despite the frequent demands to be depressed because You Can't Save The World). So, then, "Legacies", which I originally saw about, what, seven years ago and haven't seen since.
Let me just say it, here and now, Alyt Neroon rocks. I really enjoyed this episode mainly because he was 1) so fun, and 2) so prominent. His absolute fury was completely understandable, IMO, and it always works better if you can empathise with the characters, whether they be human or alien. I espcially loved his final confrontation with Delenn; it makes me miss season1!Delenn something chronic, because she was so completely unafraid to pull rank when it suited her. And he just... he couldn't really react in any other way other than to obey her orders, tight-lipped.
Other highlights included the hunt for Bremner's body in, ah, the Pak'ma'ra's bodies. Garibaldi and Neroon needed to share more screen tme, because by the end of the scene (notwithstanding Neroon's later fury), there was definitely some kind of rapport there. This is possibly due to the fact that Garibaldi was willing to do everything up to and including searching the bowels of B5's citizens to locate Bremner's body. You gotta respect a man willing to do that.
Neroon's apology to Sinclair... if I'm remembering 'The Babylon File' right, Neroon's compliment to Sinclair can be summarised as "Neroon misses the forest for the trees." 'You speak like a Minbari, Commander', indeed.
At the end of the day, Neroon is a great character (and very attractive to boot) and so the episode just lifted for me. It made me want to reread "To Dream In The City of Sorrows", actually, so I'm going to have to dig that out.
One thing that irked me about the episode, however, was Alysa Beldon, AKA obligatory cute kid (TM). She seemed to be awfully adept at extracting information from alien minds for someone who wasn't a telepath a few days previous. Ivanova not knowing the concept of 'latency' also struck me as odd, especially in light of "Divided Loyalties". Maybe they hadn't developed that character arc yet?
I did, however, enjoy the final scene between Talia and Ivanova, so I guess it wasn't all bad.
Plus, again, Neroon. Which has to be good.
So, if any nice people want to be extra-specially nice to me, they'd write me a Neroon fic. Please, god, no slash (if I see another Marcus/Neroon twu luv fic I'll extract my own eyes), just a nice, season 1 episode filler with any character on the station. Literally, any character. More screen time for Neroon!
Ok, so now I have to decide whether to move on to 'A Voice in the Wilderness' or to skip to the season 4 Neroon episodes. Hmmmm, choices, choices...
On the plus side, lots more reading on refugee camps. I'm considering writing my dissertation on the rights of female refugees, so this should be good. As the rights of migrants are so poorly defined and, thus, so poorly defended, this is a perfect area for action and/or research.
Also, I must fill in my application for the Independent Monitoring Board. Someone needs to remind to do that, because I can't keep delaying 'because of schoolwork'. That just doesn't cut it anymore. *is disgusted with self* If i can find the time to write fic, by jove, I can find the time to volunteer in prisons and detention centres.
However, you understand my reluctance, as it's volunteering in prisons, and detention centres. And I'm not a lawyer, merely a trainee. And I'm so not fit to advice / monitor anything (not old enough, not old enough!) and anyone who says otherwise is clearly unaware that I'm still 17 in my head.
Anyway. Back to reading.

"Delenn," said the Neroon in her mind, who sometimes could be as surprising as the real one had been, "once more, you presume too much.
This line just killed me. It is so Neroon! Much love, dear.

Much love, dear.
Thank you. If you want to read another take of yours truly on the Delenn/Neroon relationship, not so serious this time, have a look at the section in question in this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/selenak/58186.html) and tell me whether the comparison strikes you as valid...

Date: 2004-12-14 03:17 pm (UTC)Mwahahahaha! I love it! And yes, I'd say that it is a valid comparison... although Lennier's marriage to Vira fills me with a sense of dread I can't adequately describe (mainly because I am now seeing Vira in the getup that Anya wore for their duet...)

Date: 2004-12-09 11:40 pm (UTC)What does it say about me that the thought of Delenn/Neroon had simply never occurred? Yet you brought me right into it. So slow and delicate and sure, all at once...
Mmmmmm, Neroon!love....
Thank you for this. I am very, very late in my thanks, for which I apologise. BUT! Damnit, another 'ship! Was not expecting that...
