Potential Employers contacted me for an employment reference today. I filled it in on the online form and sent it off, but it wouldn't let me check it, and it disappeared before I could print it out for my records. Deeply worried I'd provided then with a reference including a typo (such as, say, period of service or somesuch), I sent them a confirmation email with all the details that I could then print and add to my records. It will either be taken as diligent or as anal. I'm not sure which.
Still. An employment reference after the second interview. What does that mean, then?
In other news, I am somewhat sore today. I took a nasty fall last week, resulting in a lower back/stone steps sort of an impact, during which my lower back lost. I thought I'd almost healed, and ended up sleeping almost well last night until I turned over, landed on my back (which evidently hadn't healed completely) and then woke up immediately from the pain.
Also, there was a strange man in the house, brandishing a wrench. This frightened me, until he said that the letting agent had sent him around to fix the boiler. They forgot to mention this to me. I went back to bed.
Hmmm. Work. Need to write some essays, damn it.
TO DO LIST:
- essay for GI400: to what extent and with what implications does a feminist economist's analysis of the economy differ from an orthodox perspective? DUE 25 APRIL
- essay for GY421: something about international migration and gender... er... I'm focusing on Mexico and the Philippines, and looking at domestic labour wrt gender and what differences and similarities there are. Also, possibly, the role of marriage migration, to the extent that it overlaps with domestic work (i.e. mail order brides). DUE 27 APRIL
- dissertation research proposal form: 800 words. C'mon. Must get my act together. DUE 25 APRIL
- French coursework: millions of pieces. Simply millions. An essay on tourism, and essay critiquing a film, grammar exercises, a CV and covering letter, millions more. DUE 26 APRIL
- French oral revision: must prepare a discussion / monologue regarding a magazine or newspaper article. EXAM ON 10 MAY
- catch up on LL454 reading: must actually read&understand ICESCR. Must pull apart a couple of exam papers. Must not freak out over my lacklustre knowledge of CEDAW Article (5) or the MC v Bulgaria case. Must actually read the MC v Bulgaria case. DUE BEFORE THE DAMN EXAM
- other revision: yeah, right. Let's try to catch up on the reading first, shall we?

Date: 2005-04-11 03:59 pm (UTC)I'd say that bar a really bad reference, or a better candidate turning up, you're in there. If they turn you down now, insist on feedback as to why, or at the very least, to see your references.
Good luck with the work - I have a feeling you're going to need it. Not quite OT: my firm's got a lot of Philippino employees. Admittedly the owner's wife is Philippino and recruiting a lot of friends, relatives and former colleagues, but still.

Date: 2005-04-12 10:41 pm (UTC)In other news, I got the job, so yay. However, I am deeply unhappy with their offer. Granted, I'd only be working half the time and studying the rest. I don't care. I want an actual livable salary. D'you reckon that I could haggle? It'd cost them more to interview others than to bump it up a couple of grand... *regards ceiling*
OK, I need a cup of tea right now.
