UN suspends Gaza aid operations - because they are being bombed by the Israelis.

Anyone who justifies bombing a school because it may hold militants permanently loses the moral high ground, IMNSHO. Although Hamas is doing the Palestinian cause no favours, by vowing retaliation - against Israeli children. Nice to see where you stand on the idea of a ceasefire, Hamas.

Meanwhile, the US, UK and France have stopped blocking the UN resolution - thanks, guys, nice to see some sense, finally.

Except it seems that everyone is too cash-strapped to give anything to Gaza. So what with there being no money, and aid agencies having to withdraw due to being bombed, and Israel not tending to the wounded, it might be too late already.

Meanwhile, everyone seems terrified of having an opinion, lest they offend someone.

I'm not afraid to have an opinion. I think both sides are behaving appallingly, and it's the children who are paying the price.

There. Now everyone can be offended.

For me, it's not afraid to have an opinion, but afraid to voice my opinions, of which I have several. It's such an emotional subject, and I get emotional talking about it. I don't think emotional arguments will help anything.

Yeah, I'm a coward. I accept that.

It might be my extreme ignorance of the subtleties of international politics and suchlike, but doesn't this all seem like a version of playground "you hit me so I'll hit you back" tactics?

Yes. In fact, that's pretty much how to describe most of the issues in the Middle East. I think it's stopped being about religion and land and now is about stupid, pig-ignorant pride, because no one wants to be the first to be the better man and walk away from the swing set.

A-fucking-men.

I don't have an opinion or a side to take not because I'm afraid but because both sides are being such complete warmongers that I can't possibly choose a side.

I'd say "a plague on both their houses," but I'd rather see flowers grow.

But both sides are acting badly and further damaging whatever slim chances there are for peace. And, yes, the children on both sides are paying the price now, and will again in the future.

What a mess.
