Where I am fandom's slut
26 May 2009 11:47 pmFrom everyone on my flist, last seen at
rheanna27's.
List your 10 favourite 'ships and ask your friendlist what trends they see.
These were really hard, so hard they were almost impossible. Not because I don't have any ships, but because I have a gazillion, and they change almost every week. I'm very free with my chewtoys; I don't have any one OTP to the exclusion of all others. (Otherwise known as a fandomslut, and proud of it!). But I tried to not replicate people in different pairings. So, for instance, I also like Jack/Irina and Spock/McCoy, but I omitted those, otherwise it would be top 100 pairings. I also omitted pairings I had ruined for me and abandoned (like Spike/Buffy, which fizzled out the moment it showed up on the show.)
1) Londo/G'Kar (Babylon 5)
2) Jack Bristow/Arvin Sloane (Alias)
3) Kirk/Spock (ST:TOS)
4) Snape/Sirius (HP)
5) Kira/Dukat (ST:DSN) - inorite I have no taste SHUT UP i haven't seen s7 yet.
6) Sam/Gene (Life on Mars)
7) Spike/Angel (Buffy/Angel)
8) River/Jayne (Firefly)
9) Picard/Q (ST:TNG)
10) Toby/CJ (West Wing)
I'm rereading that and going, "I can't believe I missed off X or Y or Z!" Why isn't Lister/Rimmer on there, for instance, or Bigby/Snow? Also, there are practically no women on there, shame on me. I think I mostly slash, but I tend to trend towards gen (even my slash is gen *sigh*). The women I like - and I like plenty - I tend to like as characters, rather than in pairings. Dax I will read in friendship fics with Quark, but not in ship fics; Atia I find fascinating when relating to her children, not Mark Anthony; Uhura and Gaila hanging out being rommmates makes me happy beyond belief. But shipping them with someone else? I dunno, it doesn't really work for me that often.
The three women on there are somewhat anomalous, then: Firefly I again tend to not ship greatly (I haven't got behind any of the main slash ships, they just don't work for me) but I like the characters of River and Jayne a lot. So I guess that explains that. Kira and Dukat works for me the same way that Londo/G'Kar or Jack/Arvin works for me, which is the varying levels of hatred and familiar contempt displayed throughout the series. I find the different progressions in these different relationships fascinating, as they start off arguably quite similar.
The others... I apparently have a thing for eloquent middle-aged men. Who knew?
We should totally have to do this for our favourite characters. I would fail to be unpredictable.
