Not mine, stolen from a comment on a clip of the recent episodes (3? 4? 5?).

This someone commented that the dead copper with half his face missing looks like how a young Gene would have looked, and he's wearing a 60s uniform to boot. Which actually isn't a bad theory, come to think of it, and might still tally up with the Gene-as-angel theory (or as guardian of transitioning coppers, anyway).

In other news, d'awww Ray!!! *hearts*

I'm guessing the dead copper is Gene, or rather, used to be Gene myself, yes, and that he became whatever he's now after his death. Because it's definitely not Sam, a new character would not make sense, and photo comparisons do have him resemble Phil Glenister, yes.

Ray has become such a great character over the course of the last three seasons. *hearts as well*
