Snowflake Challenge: Day 6

Day 6
In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.
This is a hard one!
1) I tried to be brave earlier and I signed up to
2) I really, really love transformative works. I have a blanket statement giving permission to podfic, translate, illustrate, remix, and otherwise transform any of my works. Anyone liking any of my work enough to want to spend their time and creative energy transforming it would make me incredibly happy.
3) .... I don't really know any Steve/Tony people. I KNOW. But I've been a relatively passive consumer of MCU fic - the extent of my engagement was commenting on fic, and then finally writing some about a year ago - and, well, all the fannish people I know are from other fandoms and Stony isn't their thing. Which is absolutely cool, and we bond over other stuff. But, uh, I'm writing quite a bit of Stony fic, and trying to get back into it is difficult when it's basically done in seclusion with v little fandom interaction. So... if you're a Stony fan, I'd love to connect! (And if you're a Stony beta reader who's willing to help me out occasionally, you can have my first-born as recompense.)
4) Getting back into DW / fandom after a long absence is hard. Rec me some nice communities, please?

Date: 2019-01-07 01:57 pm (UTC)I do wish the MCU had waited on trying to do Civil War, and given them more of a foundation-- It felt like they were in a rush to have a big hero vs hero conflict and didn't take the time to build the relationship up enough for it to be impactful in the same way. Like... I mean to be fair, they couldn't give them the same decades of a built-up relationship as the comics had, but they should have made them closer from the start for their being at odds to really HURT?

Date: 2019-01-07 02:04 pm (UTC)I agree, I do think the whole thing was a bit rushed. They stripped it pretty bare as well, because they didn’t have the mutants in the universe it ended up being essentially Steve vs Tony on personal issues rather than principled takes, and they didn’t have a relationship to damage, per se - so it ended up being all “you! You professional acquaintance-slash-occasional colleague! You have betrayed me!” which... eeeeh. Don’t get me wrong, obvs everyone and their mother is writing in either existing relationships or deep UST, but it was definitely a direction the fandom wasn’t expecting (as evidenced by all the team-as-family fics immediately after Avengers, vs what we actually got in Ultron).
I ended up having to hand-wave a lot of it in any fics I write bc, well, the films tell us there’s a lot of personal hurt & betrayal all around, but we don’t actually have a whole lot of canon to base that on.

Date: 2019-01-07 02:08 pm (UTC)And they dropped the actual issue pretty fast in favor of personal stuff, which... if they had sat down and TALKED about it, they could have gotten through. It seemed so OOC on Steve's side to like... completely disregard Tony's personal pain, while being completely driven by his own personal issues? Like... he's not flawless, but the hypocrisy and the unwillingness to stop and de-escalate just didn't feel right. It just could have been a lot better.

Date: 2019-01-07 08:24 pm (UTC)I'm also deeply ambivalent about the whole thing where Tony thinks they're friends. What's that based on? Did they literally have Steve be friendly with a guy - using his resources to track Bucky - while knowing all he knew? Because that really doesn't sound like Steve.
It's really hard to come up with a consistent characterisation for him based on all the ways in which they jerk him around. The only thing I can think of is that basically he's still hip-deep in PTSD and should have been wading through therapists rather than bad guys. (And that maybe the friends thing was wishful thinking on Tony's part, while Steve was friendly but not consciously putting two and two together.) IDK, writing this dynamic post-CW has been really hard. I want to reconcile them, but doing so is SO slow (I had to turn Steve into a kid to do it, and he's still kid-aged, and Tony is basically at the end of his tether with stress, and everything is on fire, so everything is going fine...).
And, speaking of having his characterisation put through a meat grinder, poor Barton. *weeps* I have never been so outraged in my entire life, I swear to god.

Date: 2019-01-08 12:39 am (UTC)And the thing that kills me is, Tony KNOWS that's a dangerous road to go down, because he started out feeling like he was accountable to no one and could do whatever he wanted, and then it LITERALLY blew up in his face. And his whole arc has been about learning to be responsible. And yes, Steve is impulsive and his solutions to things usually involve flinging himself at danger, but like... he should be willing to sit down and listen to someone who at least views him as a friend (even if the writers have given us precious little to go by on that), and to say 'oh, okay, well I can see why you feel that way given your own history, here are my concerns'??
(ugh yeah, why can't we have comics!Clint in the MCU?)
