Date: 2005-08-26 02:37 pm (UTC)Btw, have you had a look over at the International Crisis Group (www.icg.org unless I'm much mistaken)? They do update emails on relevant stuff, segmented by region and/or country.
Also, IGP sounds fascinating. What does the course consist of, if you don't mind me asking?

Date: 2005-08-27 08:57 am (UTC)The International Gender Politics subject is basically a survey of contemporary and traditional International Relations theory from the point of view of gender. IR is a very conservative discipline, so most of it is critique. So far we've looked at Human Rights theory, universal values vs cultural relativism, and a few other topics; we will be looking at the military and war, population politics, women and the international economy, international approaches to violence against women, and religious fundamentalism. It's a fascinating class, and it helps that we've got a great lecturer - Sheila Jeffrey's, a radical feminist who is very active in international action against human trafficking and etc. As I've majored in political science, with a focus on IR - as well as a few excursions into post-colonial theory and feminism - it's fascinating to examine what I've previously studied, and how much is ignored by the standard IR courses.
