I had a lovely time on Thursday, finally having that long-delayed dinner with [livejournal.com profile] mizzykitty. After far too much sushi, we went back to mine to mainline B5 (she hasn't seen it! A possible new convert, hallelujah!) and geek out. It was ever so much fun, and it got me thinking.

B5 S1 waffling )

I also gave in to the inevitable and purchased S1 of the newer, brighter, more CGI'd remastered ST:TOS S1 boxset. It is, in a word, lush. ST:TOS squeeing )

I'm headed to bed now, to try to reset my body clock. Got to bed far too late last night, after a truly smashing party at [livejournal.com profile] mossman's. But it's work again on Monday, so needs must...

ETA: following fortifying talk from [livejournal.com profile] queenspanky, the party will be happening. Mainly because she will be on hand to do all the difficult bits. Plus the bathroom's already cleaned, and the shopping's already done. So there is that. If people get tired, there will be beds for to sleep. Yes.

Speaking of sleep...

The weekend was spent in Edinburgh, celebrating best mate E's nuptials. There was much drinking, much eating, and a ceidlih, which means my arches re in dire need of TLC. Never mind, there were also lots of gorgeous Navy guys in uniform happy to provide it. Of course, I refused to give anyone my number, much to E's eye-rolling amusement. But the flirting and the waltzing was lovely. (And my dress was made entirely out of AWESOME).

The bride looked beautiful in red silk, the groom very handsome in his uniform, and they had a guard of honour (or whatever it's called) doing a sword-arch thing for them to walk under. Very pretty.

Then came shopping in Edinburgh, which was also lovely.

At 3pm on Sunday, I got on the train to travel down to London. At 6pm one of the electric lines came down, and we were stranded. I finally got into Kings X at 1am, 1 hour wait for a taxi home, then an hour in the taxi... I got in at 3am. 3AM PEOPLE. I was in agony all day Monday, and also today, as I worked until the building shut & the night watchman chucked me out. Poo.

BUT. I have news! ) *bounce*

Was at a Halloween party at [livejournal.com profile] athena25's last night, which was great fun. Got to catch up with all of my friends, it felt like I hadn't seen them in ages. Was slightly worried beforehand - just a touch of the old 'haven't seen anyone for ages, they might all be married with kids by now', but as it turns out, it was easy enough to just fall back into old patterns and old conversations like I never left.

Anyway, I did actually go in costume - I dressed up as Alma Garret, which was a task and a half - and everyone there was similarly attired in costumes of varying kinds. Nat&Ru were a Helena Bohnam-Carter-inspired witch and skeletal pirate, respectively, Timmzy was Bob the Builder, [livejournal.com profile] athena25 was a vampire, [livejournal.com profile] queenspanky, [livejournal.com profile] wingsmith and [livejournal.com profile] rifle were zombies, and [livejournal.com profile] weaselator rejected the idea of costumes until he had stitches painted on him and was a re-animated corpse. Which, given his day job... :)

My costume! I do have pictures, actually, but they are on my phone so I shall have to extract them from my phone and get them on my computer, which is a lot more complicated than it sounds. (There's a cable involved.) But it was a very elaborate get-up:
All I needed was the laudanum... I left the opiates at home. :) )

I had great fun with this, and it was convenient too - the many layers were warm and it was relatively comfy as outfits go, although it was considerably trickier getting out of it than it was getting into it. (The multiple mugs of mulled wine probably didn't help.) I have decided that it is a success, not least because I had several positive comments from people on by way to, and back from, the party.

Today, I mostly did nothing, except drink vast quantities of water. Tomorrow I expect to be similar, then followed by the new Bond with the whole gang. Mmmm, people not related to work! I might get spoiled by all this frivolity. *beams*

I had such fun at Yuletide this year! Both in the run-up and then doing pinch-hitting and making little stocking fillers. So, thank you [livejournal.com profile] elynross and [livejournal.com profile] astolat for a fantastic fest!

I wrote the following fics:

- main fic:
The Gift Trap for chaosmanor
Coupling (UK): Steve tries to avoid falling into the gift trap.

- pinch-hitter:
This Be the Verse for Apathy
Transmetropolitan: Daisy-scented shit still stinks, OR: Why Spider Jerusalem hates suburbia more than life itself.

and

- Yuletide Treat:
Luxury for jaybee65
Rome: The morning after Octavia's marriage to Mark Anthony, she goes to visit her mother.

***

I received two wonderful stories, Featured (Transmetropolitan)by ideal_girl and And All the Roads (Nip/Tuck) by Ceares - thank you, guys, they are fab, and they made me glow like a glowy thing!

***

Thank you also to [livejournal.com profile] queenspanky for a truly fabulous New Year's party... I don't recall ever drinking that much champagne and still being coherent... must be the fabulous food that went alongside it! :) Much fun was had, and we all danced like crazy people. It's a wonder we all had that much energy, there was swing dancing and everything at one point! :)

***

In non-party and/or fic news, I am spending the day cooking and playing Viva Pinata. Because it's brilliant. (And because I staggered out of bed at 2.30pm, slightly confused to find it already dark outside.)

***

New Year's resolutions to follow later. I'm pleased to say that, by and large, I stuck to last year's resolutions, so I am hoping for more fo the same in the coming year. *beams* Happy 2008!

- I am pleased with life in general. Had a fab party at Nat's last night, wherein party things happened )

- In other news, the first draft of my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic was written and then betaed, and I am now attempting to do the corrections. I'm having quite a few corrections, as a lot of stuff in the second ahlf depends on what I do in the first half, so early changes mean extensive re-writes of the second half... but I'm ok with that! *g* At least I have the first draft done! *g*

- I was briefly shopping online for random gifts, then realised that the postage costs to get it here in time are ridiculous and I'd do just as well to nip to Covent Garden after work this week. Which is what I'm doing.

- This coming week I am on a training course. It is one of those annoyingly technical, difficult and all-round useful courses that are so useful they are mandatory, and require your brain to work from start to finish. This is a problem, as my brain isn't really of much use at the moment. (Evidence: start reading sentence. Reach end of sentence. Realise have forgotten beginning of sentence. Sentence is only two lines long. Hang head in shame.) BUT! It is with my year-group, and it is uber-useful as I am moving up from team member to team leader in January and will therefore need to know all this stuff. So I will persevere.

- I am refusing to think about exams, as I cannot bear it.

- Over the Xmas break, I want to do the following things:

1. Write my [livejournal.com profile] fire_fic submission, as the donor has waited so long for it! *hangs head in shame*
2. Put together my website on the space wonderfully volunteered by [livejournal.com profile] eponis, as it will one of the few opportunities to get that up and running. I can add the fic to it as and when I convert it.
3. Finish 6 more books before 1 Jan! *g* I've read 44, and want to hit that magical '50'...
4. Get my hair cut. Not a lot, mind you, but it needs a little trim.
5. Find a place that does pilates or yoga in south-west London on a Sunday. It will be part of my New year's resolution...
6. Sleep!!

Many, many thanks to all the people who sent me lovely b-day wishes. *smooches you all* You guys are the best.

Yesterday was fab. I bought art materials, and drew for several hours (my left arm is strangely fascinating once you've dissected it on paper...) and wrote fic, and drank chai tea, and generally did nothing. IT WAS ACE.

In the evening, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] athena25, [livejournal.com profile] wingsmith, [livejournal.com profile] queenspanky and [livejournal.com profile] ababyyou and we went to Carmen for tapas and sangria, and THEY BOUGHT ME A JEWELLED RIDING CROP!! I just about fell off my chair. It's soooooooooo beautiful! *loves*

Today I slept until 1pm.

I like being older. :)
