I realised I did a "my job hangs in the balance!" post, and totally left you at that cliffhanger. Le sigh.
Good news: my job no longer hangs in the balance. My contract has been extended by another six months, which means I have employment up until the end of September. The department is reorganising roles, and working out whether the post I'm in should be in charge of other posts or not (I'd prefer not, quite frankly; I have enough to do without having to manage other people...), hence the extension. So there may be a change-slash-promotion in my future not too long a wait away. (And if there isn't, that would bring me up to a year in this org, which is fine.)
Less good news: there is talk of extra travelling (which is good) at really inconvenient times (which is bad). I don't know. Until someone actually approaches me with firm dates (and goals) for this trip, I'm assuming it's not happening.
Jewellery news: For those curious, I did go to Tiffany's. The Tiffany's on Old Bond Street is a dive, quite frankly. (I know, I was going WTF?) Poor lighting, poor furnishing, and the display items hadn't been polished, so they weren't precisely looking their best. Bad showing, Tiffany's! The Tiffany's in Selfridges was a lot better, and had some very helpful people that almost persuaded me to part with all my money in exchange for a gorgeous string of pearls.
To be fair, it is was a stunning string of pearls.
Other things I liked was the Tempur memory foam mattress, which appeared to be sent directly from heaven. It costs all the money I have (and more - God bless plastic!) but is quite likely worth every penny.
Tomorrow, I am going with my mother to check out the mattress again (and also see if John Lewis has anything similar yet less extortionate). By the end of the day, I shall have a beautiful new mattress on order. Yay! *dances* My mattress is so bad, I haven't been able to sleep properly for weeks. And this new memory foam thing is supposed to last for upwards of 15 years, so - clearly an important investment.
Other news: I'm looking forward to flatmate Z moving out, I think. We've reached the stage where everything we do is annoying the other person. For instance: she's failed to purchase anything for the house for the last month; managed to put the deadbolt on last night and leave her key in the lock so I couldn't unlock it, and complained about me waking her up (at 10pm!!) to unlock the bloody door (I had a few choice words to say about that), and various other offences. Grr. She's away this weekend, I think, which should be nice.
Finally: Did I mention I had yesterday off, and today as well?? W00t!

Date: 2009-01-30 01:47 pm (UTC)I just realized that I haven't commented on your journal in a while. I've been reading with interest, however.
Is there a particular reason you're being seduced by jewelry this month, or did it just hit you randomly? Normally randomly hitting the object of your affections isn't a good seduction technique, but hey, people have boats and they need to float. ^^

I tend to rotate through the clothes-shoes-jewellery cycle on a regular basis. I only really ever obsess about DVDs if I am feeling the need for escapism (sure-fire sign that I'm sliding into depression); otherwise I am a depressingly girly girl who likes pretty sparkly things in their myriad forms.

So, what did you want to do? Museums, art galleries, burlesque shows? Or we could always steal some city-boy-wanker's credit cards and hire a fleet of strippers...

anna said she doesn't yet know if she's in town; I might hang around for the whole 5 days otherwise. You could live with that...with me, for that while, I guess. & ;-)
